Into Opera makes immersive opera experiences. Each one is built for the room it happens in, with the audience inside the story rather than sitting opposite it, close enough to see a singer breathe and feel the room respond around them.

Long before anyone could write, history was carried in song. Every culture has sung to celebrate, to grieve and to explain itself – and we still do. We sing at weddings and funerals, at birthdays, in church, on the terraces at Carrow Road.
We sing when something is too big to just say. Opera is that instinct taken all the way – words, music, design, dance and light, all at once, live.
Opera explores and celebrates the whole expanse of what people feel. It asks us to listen properly, and to understand a life that is not our own – and few of us get much practice at that.
Children are taught to read and to add up. Very few are ever taught what to do with how they feel. That is an emotional education, and it matters every bit as much as an academic one. So we build experiences rather than performances – things people take part in, not just watch.

We are curious rather than purist about how people first connect with music and stories. Founded in Norfolk in 2017 by stage director Genevieve Raghu, we are approaching our first decade, and we work in four ways.
The Elixir of Love in a barn. Captain Blood’s Revenge, written for us. An opera about magical cats, for families who had never seen one. Next, Jonathan Dove in a working aircraft hangar. Classics in English, new work of our own, and never where you would expect to find it.
Some of the finest voices in the country, a few feet away, talking between songs about what the music is and why it matters to them. People come for an evening out and leave having met somebody.
Twenty-five Norfolk primaries now look to us to raise the ambition of their arts programmes, with more joining every month. We are filling a gap nobody else is. Key Change then makes sure the artists of the future are not lost on the way in – twelve places for 16 to 23 year olds, ten of them free.
